Deloitte - Building Brilliant Leaders

Background

In late 2021, Integral began conversations with the Leadership and Learning team at Deloitte Australia, to partner with them to develop over 600 of their senior managers in four states of Australia.  Deloitte provides structured leadership development to numerous levels of leadership in the organization, including directors, senior managers, managers and senior analysts.  This program is known as Building Brilliant Leaders and the competencies it focuses on are based on Deloitte’s global leadership competency framework.

The Challenge

Our brief from Deloitte was to challenge the participants and continue their growth as leaders. We were asked to ensure the program gave participants opportunities to build their networking skills, build their capacity to influence, further develop their high-performing teams, and to work in complex environments where the competing needs of the client and team members can arise.

The Solution/Approach

Given the program objectives and the challenges this group of participants faced day to day, we worked with our client to develop a two-day leadership program based on Adaptive Leadership principles (from the work of Ron Heifetz and Marty Linksy). Participants were exposed to content including adaptive and technical challenges, psychological safety, leading self (holding steady), leading in the zone of productive disequilibrium, understanding values and purpose and faction mapping.

The program was highly experiential, with four facilitators working with between 40 and 80 participants in each two-day program.  The program also included several scenario-based activities (developed around typical Deloitte challenges) and relied on the participants developing and working with their Adaptive challenge as the program proceeded

Core to the success of the program was the inclusion of one-on-one coaching for all participants with over 30 of our coaches involved in delivering these sessions.

The Outcome

As part of the first pilot intake of over 290 participants, we conducted a bespoke pre- and post-180-degree feedback survey (based on the Deloitte global leadership capability framework). The results of this series of assessments showed an average 13% increase in the skill set of the participants, based on the perspective of their managers. Deloitte also went on to win the Australian Institute of Training and Development 2023 Excellence Awards for Best Leadership Program. Integral is proud to be a part of this program and continues to work with Deloitte on various leadership programs and initiatives.
