About Pete Coop
Born in Manchester in the UK, Pete has 35 years business experience at the sharp end. Beginning his career at the shop floor level he quickly moved up through the business and management ladder. He has 10 years experience in the corporate Telco Sector, in a senior management position for ITT, Motorola and Vodafone.
At 29 years of age, Pete became the youngest Senior Manager in the history of the Racal Group (Owners of Vodafone). Vodafone went onto be the biggest mobile player in the world as a result of the strong start up base that was developed in the UK.
In the following 20 years he worked as an Independent International Management Consultant delivering change in over 100 initiatives / projects.
Experience
Pete has worked in a wide variety of sectors from SME’s to Corporates, Public and Private, High to Low Tech, Manufacturing and Service. Pete also has a strong understanding and track record within the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (E,P&C) sector. Initially based in the UK Pete went onto deliver change in Hungary, Sweden, France, Rio, Cape Town, China and now resides in Western Australia. His clients have included Bechtel ,Epson, GEC, Allied Signal, Epwin Group and DA Stuart OIL.
One of Pete’s more complex projects included working with a Public/Private Enterprise Water Business, on their $7 billion Asset Management Programme. Pete was called in to facilitate change required should any of the projects fall behind on schedule and or exceed cost. Following the success of this initiative Pete went onto implement a Performance Management culture throughout the Programme. In addition Kick off meetings and reviews were implemented to ensure best practice was maintained. With the end user being the Government / public, the stakes were high and effective delivery of change was critical. This example highlights Pete’s ability to deliver change in a large, complex business environment with many functions, contractors and partners.
Expertise
Pete is a strong and effective deliverer of positive change, through a combination of facilitation, coaching, trouble - shooting and business development. In addition Pete has a very powerful training style, having delivered many management development /team improvement programs during the last 20 years.
Summary
Pete has often been called in when other consultants have failed to deliver. With an ability to communicate effectively at all levels, Pete can very quickly uncover and understand the business / project constraints. Following this a Path Forward can be established. When combined with his “no nonsense” style, Pete excels wherever quick results and improvement are required in a pressured business environment.
Personal Interests
Pete’s faith is an important part of his life and he has a passion for youth activity, regularly organizing youth Kayaking, Sailing and Paddle Boarding. He also recently went to Cambodia on a mission trip to renovate a school, funded through his Church.
Pete is a keen sailor, having sailed for 10 months around the world the wrong way (against the prevailing winds and currents) in the first British Steel Challenge 1992/93. The adventures, highlights (or lowlights!) included, rounding Cape Horn, capsizing 3 times, hitting an iceberg in the middle of the night and battling through 20 metre waves in minus 25 degree wind chill.
