How to Develop Leaders via Coaching and Mentoring

Developing Leaders with Executive Coaching and Mentoring

As leaders in both executive coaching and leadership development in the Perth market, we have observed first-hand the positive effects that coaching and mentoring can have in any organisation. Recently, we found a study that agrees with our observations. A survey of executives who are members of the US-based Institute for Corporate Productivity concluded that every effective organisation included coaching and mentoring as major parts of their corporate culture.

The report was entitled, “How High-Performance Organisations Accelerate Executive Leadership Development.” The research was unique since it focused solely on what successful organisations do that unsuccessful organisations don’t to develop leaders. As might be expected by anyone who is familiar with Integral Development and the Integral Approach, coaching was one of the key determinants for effective and successful organisations.

Coaching and Mentoring: Essential to Leadership Development

According to the report, effective organisations placed a strong emphasis on coaching and mentoring, both formal and informal. After a basis of formal coaching is established, high performers take it to the next level by using mentoring at double the rate of those who are less successful.

One of the most effective methods was a system where young, rising executives were paired with experienced, successful executives. This was a formal form of mentoring, with clear objectives and a fixed time span leading towards the accomplishment of specific, measurable ROI goals.

Informal mentoring was also prevalent in successful organisations. Mentoring often occurs spontaneously with no training nor set goals. These mentor/protege relationships often last over a professional lifetime and are usually beneficial. Peer to peer mentoring also occurs, but with varying effects.

Coaching and Mentoring: the Integral Approach

For our satisfied clients, mentoring and coaching are natural by-products of the Integral Approach. Whether it’s our proprietary Integral Leadership Program, 360-Degree Feedback, Executive Coaching, or any of our leadership development programs at our Perth campus, we employ Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory to develop leaders within your organisation.

Integral Theory combines the best of all known forms of human inquiry in a four-quadrant approach to growth. The Integral Approach prepares leaders to provide solutions for the complex array of challenges facing the modern executive.
